Newbiggin waterfall - Low and High Force

The road from Swinhope Moor takes you across into Teesdale and ends in the small Hamlet of Newbiggin. Weather much improved I parked my car next to the village green and heard the waterfall immediately. So my picnic had to wait knowing how fast the weather can change. I took a few good shots of the waterfall. As always I played around with longer exposures via a ND-Filter. The old discussion will start how the waterfall looks better.....  It will be even better however to come back in the spring when the vegetation around it is more lively. I was lucky though to spot the bunch of Snowdrops right next to the waterfall.

Afterwards I sat on a bench on the village green next to the waterfall in the sunshine and enjoyed my packed lunch. Having had a good rest I decided to go to Bowlees which is only a few hundred yards from Newbiggin and walk to High Force. Because of the heavy rainfall I was hoping it would be good.

It was a very strenuous walk against the strong wind but it was worth it. Both Low Force and High Force were tremendous. As you can see the "second spout" on the right was active as well. In the summer normally only the left part of the waterfall is active. The scenery on the walk from Low Force to High Force was also great. I was quite tired and only the comments from the occasional walkers coming towards me and telling me how magnificent High Force looked kept me going. Standing on top of High Force Waterfall was great (last photo) . The walk back took me a third of the time with the howling wind in my back. When I arrived back at Edmundbyers I was ready for a good rest.
