Talking Tarn

Talking Tarn near Brampton is fed by underground streams and glacial in origin. It is a kettle-hole lake, formed when a block of ice broke away from the main glacier and was left stranded in the sandy deposits left by the meltwater. When the ice block eventually melted, it left a depression filled with water. The hill in the distance on the first photo is Talking Fell. The last two photos with Talking Tarn in the distance were taken a year later (2018) on our way to Gelts Wood. There is a viewpoint on the road above the Tarn before you reach the village of Talkin.
