Waterfall above Gibsons Cave

This was a tip a got from a couple at Gibson´s cave in Teesdale some years ago. They told me that there is another waterfall above the Cave. I always remembered and studied the map to find out it should be close to my favourite road from Westgate to Newbiggin. So I parked the car at the layby on the road from Westgate to Newbiggin from which I took the walk in January to the quarry with the abandoned mill stone and followed the stream without any camera equipment because I didn´t know what to expect. It was wise to leave the camera gear behind. There was no proper path and I had to cross the stream a couple of times until I finally found the waterfall just above a wooden bridge. Photo 1. I made my way back straight up the hill towards where I thought the main road would be instead of scrambling back the same route. It turned out that the waterfall is only a few hundred yards down from the main road! At a cattle grid opposite a lone farm building a public footpath sign leads you to it. So I came back a few days later parked there and managed to climb down to the waterfall and get some nice shots.
