Walk to the Elephant Trees
Every time I drive from Edmundbyers to Stanhope I can see the Elephant trees above Wolsingham in the distance. First shot is taken from the descent into Stanhope. Unfortunately the front trees have been blown down by a storm. The tree stumps and the cut up tree trunks are still there. From a distance they still resemble a row of elephants trotting along.
I parked the car high up above Wolsingham to avoid the climb with the camera gear. It was still quite a long undulating walk along the ridge. Once you reach the trees they are not too impressive. But when you take a closer look at the tree trunks they do resemble elephant feet (or is it my imagination). A great walk. The icing on the cake came when I took my new 600mm long lens for a trial after the walk and managed to get some good shots of a Dunnock.
