Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse

An early morning trip to Marsden Rock which took just over an hour from Edmundbyers. The weather unfortunately was not very good. The arch is facing exactly east.  I found a place where one can climb down the cliffs and I am looking forward to come back and take a photo of the sunrise through the arch. Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse is just south of Newcastle. On my journey back with the DFDS Ferry I was able to see the lighthouse and the rocky coast from the ferry. Unfortunately the weather was really bad and it was impossible to take any photos. The visit to the Lighthouse was really interesting. Lots of information of the mining past of Marsden and the lighthouse, it´s small community and the fact that it was one of the first electric lighthouses in the world (having competition of being the first from the lighthouse in Cherson in the Ukraine!). Great to see the table with the light turning and fascinated to learn that the movable part swims in a basin filled with tons of quicksilver!
