We have many memories of Hartside. It therefore has its own chapter.

The photos are from our walk in June 2019 where we set off from Hartside Cafe and tried to make it to Melmerby High Scar. It is part of a walk described in Paddy Dillon´s Book: "Walking in the North Pennines".  We never made it as far as Melmerby High Scar so it is still on our To Do List. A very strenous walk but rewarded with fantastic views of Cross Fell, across to the Lake District and the Pennines. 

The first photo is a view from the road leading up to Hartside Cafe from Alston. On the second photo you can see Hartside Cafe on the right and the road leading up to Hartside from the Eden Valley side. In 2021 this road was a climb on the cycling race "Tour of Britain".
