Waterfalls at Westgate and Eastgate

I discovered the waterfalls above Westgate during my stay in January. This is Swinhope Burn shortly before it joins the river Wear. I took a few photos of the smaller waterfall a bit further downstream in Januray and could only see the big waterfall through the trees with a descend too dangerous in the icy conditions.

That lazy sunday afternoon the weather was good and I asked the owner of the adjacent house if it was okay to climb down to the waterfall. It was afternoon and the sun was directly behind the waterfall so it was difficult to avoid it. But it is always great to be beside a waterfall and try out the different angles and exposures. (First three photos.)

The last two waterfalls are just above Eastgate. I found them because I was frustrated from my unsuccessful wait for the kingfisher who is at the campsite next to Rookhope Burn. I met one of the owners on my first visit who told me about the kingfisher and let me set up my brandnew Tragopan tent. I was sitting in there waiting for the kingfisher when I got too bored and decided to venture downstream and see if I would be lucky to spot the kingfisher there sitting on a branch laughing at me in my silly tent.

I was surprised to see the two beautiful waterfalls and decided to make the day a success by taking waterfall pictures instead. The Kingfisher has to wait his turn.....
