After a long drive to the very small and busy car park at the end of the tarmac road at the southern end of Hawswater Reservoir we started the difficult climb up the ridge. Finally we were too tired to continue up to the High Street and descended to Blea Water and walked back to the car park from there.
On the way back we visited Shap Abbey. Further on we drove past Askham hall and had a really nice pub meal in the Punch Bowl Inn at Askham. On the approach to Ullswater we had a fantastic panoramic view of Pooley Bridge.
