Holwick Scar

The weather cleared up in the afternoon and after a rainy morning at Blanchland I had a great walk around Holwick Scar. The panel gives a good explanation. We have visited Holwick Scar several times before but never went beyond the farm at the end of the small hamlet. Holwick Scar is on the front cover of my favourite book about the Pennines. David Bellamy´s "England´s last Wilderness".

The cover of the book is on photo #13 (the book was published in 1989) and after that I have included a shot from almost the same spot from one of our previous visits in 2019. The hut is gone and the walls are derelict but the lone tree is thriving.

The sheep sculpture at the gate photo #8 is part of the Teesdale Sculpture Trail A Teesdale Sculpture Trail | Art UK like the sculpture "Air" at the layby. It is by Keith Alexander and called "Moor or Less". I ended up on a small crag above the farm (photos #9; 10 and 11 are taken from there) and decided this would be the ideal place to do a Panorama of Teesdale. I came back a few days later and really enjoyed it. You can see the Panorama on one of the later pages.
