Flakebridge Wood - Acorn Bank

The photos of the walk at Flakebridge Wood near Dufton are from June 2019 (first seven photos). Unfortunately the Blue Bells were no longer in blossom. We are not superstitious but the intention was to do Walk Number 13 in our guide book "Walking in Cumbria´s Eden Valley". We got completely lost in Flakebridge Wood and ended up going back the same way we came.

We visited Acorn Bank near Temple Sowerby next and had some great views of Cross Fell and Great Dunn Fell from the Eden Valley perspective on our way.

Acorn Bank is full of history. The Knights Templar were the early owners of the manor of Sowerby. After they were disbanded by the Pope in the early 14th Century, the manor passed into the hands of the Knight Hospitallers. We took a guided tour through the main house and visited the fantastic gardens.
