Escomb Saxon Church

The Church at Escomb is half an hour away from Edmundbyers very close to the A68 and easy to reach. It claims to be the oldest most complete Saxon Church in England. It is a fine example of Saxon architecture. It is a long, tall and narrow building. The roof follows the pattern of an upturned boat. It has many interesting features which are really well explained on laminated A4 sheets spread around the church.
