Evening on the road to Stanhope

My first of many visits to my favourite scenic road from Egglestone to Stanhope only a few minutes away from the cottage. Photo #2 - #6  are taken at Blackton House Farm still on the ascent looking across towards Teesdale with Kirkcarrion in the distance on photo #2 and 6. My next stop was at the cattle grid when you reach the plateau. There is a steep drop into the ravine with Eggleston Burn. I noticed some ruins of mine works there and climbed down to the water level (photos # 7 - #13). From the lowest point you get a fantastic view towards Middle End Farm. When I started my struggle back uphill I noticed how high the price for these last photos was.....

Photo #14 is taken further up the road with the unusual big barn of Middle End Farm with its four arched high gates.

Instead of driving further towards Stanhope I took the turn off towards Middle End Farm and further on towards Middleton. Photos # 15 - #20 are taken around Middle End Farm some with the reverse view from earlier looking at the ravine with the mining remains. The intricate stone walls of the sheep pen were very difficult to catch on the photo. One of the many times I regretted not to have a drone..... .

I continued on the road that leads you into Middleton from which you have fantastic views across towards Teesdale. The evening light was fantastic and I had lots of stops to wander around and find the best spots for the photos. Kirkcarrion - being my favourite spot - featuring in almost all the shots.

After around 4 hours I arrived in Middleton. (With a straight forward drive you could have done the same trip in 20 minutes). On the way back I stopped of course at the layby with the Teesdale view and took another shot of the sunset. (see last photo).

P.S. I found virtually no Info on Google on the mine workings at Egglestone Burn. If anybody has some information please let me know.
