Search for Fossils at Belmont Farm

I parked my car up at the layby on the road towards Blanchland where the public footpath starts. Instead of staying up at the top next to Belmount Farm I walked down towards Burnhope Burn and followed the stream. There was no proper path but the scenery was great. An old lime kiln was right beside the Burn. A couple of small streams with waterfalls came in from the side. At one of them I discovered an old mine shaft with a cobweb at the entrance. However no boulder fields with the promised fossils. Down in the ravine I was sheltered from the howling wind which you would not expect from looking at the fine blue sky. Getting closer and closer towards Edmundbyers I decided to get up to the top and make my way back to the car. Half way up the view back was spectacular with the abandoned Farms and the mine shafts in the distance. There were also two boulder fields! So I searched a couple but could not find any fossils. The way back was almost impossible due to the strong wind. Luckily I was wearing a Balaclava which I wore like a bank robber to be able to breath easier. They do not call the area "The last wilderness" for nothing.  At the entrance to the first abandoned farm I found a resemblance of some fossils in a rock but I am not sure. A great experience despite the unsuccessful fossil search. BTW: Is it my imagination or does the tree resemble a flying dinosaur?? Take a closer look.
