Carlton Marshes

This nature reserve is just outside Lowestoft and has a great visitor centre. I visited several times and was very lucky to get good photos of  on all my visits. By looking up the Snipe on the Internet I came across this great website with excellent descriptions, photos, videos, etc of birds:

From the same hide I was able to take some snaps of the chinese water deer:

The Heron was very far away from the Hide.

Jim thinks that the small bird sitting on the stalk is a stonechat:

The experience of being able to watch the Marsh Harrier was outstanding. He was harrassed and watched the whole time by the two jackdaws and four Magpies who even attacked him while he was flying.

It was the first time for me that I really tried out the zoom lens on flying birds and I noticed it takes some experience to get used to it but it is great fun.

The igrit was a total surprise for me when he came to the small pond just in front of the Hide. I was too excited to unzoom fast enough and unfortunately I cut his beek off while he flew off.
