High Force

We have visited High Force many many times. So I decided to upload the best photos starting from the latest visit with family in 2019 and will add more photos going back over the years soon. On this occasion we parked at the High Force Hotel where you can also pay the entrance fee to the Gorge and take the well maintained gravel path towards the bottom of the Falls (On our first visits 40 years ago it was just a rough track).

It is a much longer approach from Bowlees Visitor Centre across Wnych Bridge and alongside the river on the other side. You do get however an altogether different picture from the falls from the platform which is above the Falls and you can climb right close to it. (photos will soon follow)

In former times it was also possible from the Hotel side to climb to the top and stand next to the falls but the access is now barred since it is considered too dangerous. There is an excellent webpage from the Raby Estates who own the land around the Falls with some incredible Drone films. Here is the link:  High Force Waterfall | High Force | One of the Most Spectacular Waterfalls in England (raby.co.uk)

There is a good explanation how the waterfall was created over millions of years. I have included the snapshot.
