High Cup Nick from a distance

The picture of High Cup Nick from a distance in Helen Shaw´s book really inspired me. Some years ago I walked up to High Cup Nick from Dufton with Rosalind and John. In April I walked up to High Cup Nick from Knock. From the angle of the photo and the distance I identified the area on the map where the photo could have been taken (blue circle with arrow on the map). High Cup Nick is towards the top right corner of the Map. As you can see Appleby with the tower of the castle is in between. The photos are taken at various times of the day on my visits. In the morning the sun coming from the east creates shadow on the right of the canyon (Second shot was very early with the mist still lingering over Appleby). In late evening you have the same shadow topic on the opposite side. So I finally decided to come at lunchtime when the sun coming from the south is shining towards the canyon. The best view point  was early early Sunday morning when I drove to Mount Pleasant Farm and sneeked into the meadows while the Farmer was still having his beauty sleep.... Being in that area several times and always having the splendid view of the whole mountain range with Great Dunn Fell and Cross Fell to the left and the various pikes on the right of High Cup Nick was really great and I thoroughly enjoyed my time up there. Without the inspiration from Helen Shaw´s book I don´t think this idea would have come to me. The last three photos were taken on the evening drive back to Long Marton with a beautiful sunset just outside Long Marton looking towards the Lake District.
